CBD OIL FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Cannabidiol is one of the eminent complexes derived from the Cannabis plant. Forty per cent of the cannabis extract is the Cannabidiol while the rest is tetrahydrocannabinol. CBD is non-psychoactive and does not cause inebriation. It is known to reduce pain, inflammation and, depression. CBD interacts with the receptors in the body to help the brain in tumbling the effects of inflammation and anxiety. Research is being carried out to find the complete health benefits of CBD oil (Philpott et al.).
Obesity or excessive weight is a major health issue rising rapidly all around the world. Our eating habits and sedentary lifestyle is adding to the chances of weight gain and stoutness. Primary research on CBD has shown that it may help in promoting weight loss or trigger the responses of the body that support in reducing excessive fat (Shannon and Opila-Lehman).
How CBD Promotes Weight Loss
Preliminary research has proved that even though CBD is not directly effective in reducing excessive fat, it can help in other processes that may lead to weight loss. Studies carried out on animals have shown that CBD oil interacts with the endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. These receptors are present in the lymphoid tissues and brain. They have a key role in the intake of food and overall metabolic processes of the body. The oil can help in boosting the metabolism and imposes a feeling of fullness.
In a study carried out on the rats, CBD effectively reduced weight over a period of two weeks. However, the dose was injected into the rats and not given orally. It was also observed that a higher dose of CBD had pronounced weight loss effect on the rats.
CBD Reduces Appetite
Another study has shown that CBD also reduces the intake of food which will eventually lead to a reduction in weight. People who smoke Cannabis report to feel hungrier than normal. This happens because of the presence of THC in the cannabis plant (Ignatowska-Jankowska et al.). However, CBD contains traces of THC so it will not cause hunger. CBD blocks the CB1 receptors that stimulate the appetite. Once the CB1 receptors are not effective it may prevent overeating and stuffing. Even though no direct studies show the effect of CBD in reducing appetite in humans, we are still hopeful that it be equally effective.
CBD Helps in Browning of The Fat In The Body
The human body contains two types of fat. Brown fat helps in heat generation and it occurs by burning calories (Aldiss et al.). Having more quantity of brown fat is healthier than having excessive white fat. The body transforms the bad fat to good by different practices such as adequate sleep, exercise and exposure to cold temperature (Rui).
CBD helps in the browning of the fat molecules by enhancing the expression of the ‘browning’ genes and regulatory proteins. These studies are still to be carried out on humans.
CBD Reduces Metabolic Disorders
Research has shown that obesity is closely linked with metabolic disorders such as high blood pressure, high level of bad cholesterol and diabetes type II (Dong et al.). The Cannabinol receptors may be over-activated causing metabolic disorders. Blocking the CB1 receptors reduces the chances of obesity and ailments. Studies carried out on rats showed a reduction in the level of blood sugar and cholesterol (Iffland and Grotenhermen).
Should I Take CBD for Weight Loss?
Even though it is unclear if CBD oil is safe for weight loss in humans, it is still being used all around the world to cut off excessive fat. Since this is not a natural way of weight loss such as exercise, it comes with some minor side effects. As we still have to wait for the research to be carried out on humans, it is relatively unsafe to use CBD oil for weight loss. Instead of taking risks, it is advisable to try some weight loss tips which are safe and effective.
- Drink ample water especially right before the meals
- Drink Black coffee
- Intake superfoods to induce the feeling of fullness
- Go for intermittent fasting
- Reduce the intake of sugar and sweets
- Cut the number of carbohydrates from the diet
- Exercise and increase physical activity
- Eat smaller portions
- Get eight hours of sound sleep
- Chew more, eat less
CBD oil has proven to effective for several health-related issues and scientists are hopeful that it will be effective for weight loss as soon as the right dose and usage are found out. Until then we can try some natural ways of weight loss such as ample physical activity and avoiding fast and unhealthy food.
